What is Local Development Fund

The Malawi Government has established the LDF in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act, 2003, as a nationwide, sustainable, standardized and transparent financial mechanism, which is open for financing by Government and Development Partners, so that Districts and Urban Assemblies in Malawi can support decentralized and sustained development.

The LDF takes a Community Demand Development (CDD) approach as a planning and implementation tool. This model entails that stakeholders must be empowered with knowledge about the LDF, their roles and responsibilities and funding modalities.

The goal of the LDF is to empower local communities to take part in the decision making  process through improved local governance and development management, in order to reduce poverty and improve services delivery.
